KITE are recruiting post graduates for the academic year 2025-2026 and we are thrilled to be offering two full time primary teacher training programmes: Primary 3-7 and Primary 5-11.

Primary 3-7 Programme:

Our Primary 3–7 years PGCE leads to Qualified Teacher Status, and will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to become a confident and competent teacher, specialising in Key Stage 1 and the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Primary 5-11 Programme:

Our Primary 5–11 years PGCE leads to Qualified Teacher Status and will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to become a confident and competent teacher, specialising in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

Entry Requirements:

Applicants must have a UK bachelor’s degree or equivalent by the time they start the programme in September. They also need to have GCSE grade C/4 or above in English language, maths and science or equivalent. N.B Any equivalent must have an with ENIC proof of equivalence.

Original certificates (GCSE/equivalent and Degree/equivalent) will need to be seen before the start of the programme.

As part of our safer recruitment procedures, all individuals who accept a place on the programme will need to have an Enhanced Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check and all associated checks.

Qualifications:

Both programmes lead to a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and 60 Masters Credits. Our partner the National Institute of Teaching award QTS, whilst the University of Birmingham award the PGCE.

Placements:

We work hard to ensure that individuals are placed in schools, alongside experienced mentors (class teachers) that are fully committed to supporting and coaching our student teachers. The majority of trainees will be placed within Kernow Learning schools, however we also work with a number of partner schools.

Over the year, students have two placement schools: the main placement takes place during autumn and summer term (students return back to the same class, with the same teacher) and the contrasting placement takes place during the spring term.

Those on the primary 3-7 programme will have a placement in the early years foundation stage and key stage one (either year 1 or year 2), whilst those on the primary 5-11 programme will have a placement in key stage 1 (year 1 or 2) and key stage 2 (years 3-6).

We aim to ensure that placements are within a 40 minute drive of a student’s home and where possible we consider any personal circumstances.

Experience:

Whilst experience of working or volunteering in a school is not a condition of entry for initial teacher education courses, we recommend that you take up opportunities to gain a realistic understanding of whether teaching is right for you.
